| Abstract | This work aims to propose managing indicators to distance education systems, having as a reference the model used by the EaD Campus of the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Rio Grande do Norte (IFRN). It is intended by that to improve the management of the distance online courses. The research seeks to identify and propose new elements which aid the management process of these kinds of educational courses. In this way, it began in the Literature Review with the characterization of the modality of distance online courses, focusing on the evolution of their concepts and processes, according to the technological generations. Also, it worked on the relationship between distance online courses and the Information and Communications Technologies (ICT), by describing the path of the former, in general, but in Brazil and in IFRN, giving a special attention to the characterization of the learning platforms, an essential device in the integration of the distance learning courses and E-learning. At the end of this theoretical component, it was worked on the challenges faced by Higher Education institutions when they decide to adopt the online and E-learning forms in their modalities of teaching/learning. In the empirical work, it was used a methodology type survey, descriptive and exploratory and three questionnaires were created and validated by distance online courses experts and filled out by coordinators, teachers and students. From this part, the definitions of the dimensions were worked. As a whole, eight dimensions were defined, being distributed among the profile, teaching/learning process and technological resources, administrative body (teachers and tutors), facility condition and computing support, teaching/learning and pedagogical methodology, issues and difficulties, main obtained results and improvements. The instruments and methods used in this study were: literature review, quantitative research to data collection, questionnaire use with coordinators, teachers and students. Besides the tabulation, to have knowledge of the common questions among the researched people, a table was created with the triangulation of the questions of the three questionnaires. From the obtained results, the questions were selected and it was noticed thirty-four common questions with affirmative results “yes” and nineteen common questions with negative results “no”. Therefore, it was concluded that there is not an only question to the management of online learning courses because all dimensions were studied and it was verified the complexity of managing a distance online educational model, for there is not a ready model, a standard one. So, the institution in order to design, implement and execute online courses needs to define which model is better according to its necessities, aiming the elements of educational and curricular management worked in this study: human resources (teachers, tutors, administrative and technical personnel), facility conditions and computing support, technological resources, pedagogical model, teaching quality and management. |
