| Abstract | Indian economy is running with very fast growth rate, so there is a huge demand of energy in future. But the requirement cannot be achieved with conventional sources of energy as these are limited. Renewable Energy Systems are likely to become wide spread in future due to adverse environmental impacts and escalation in energy costs associated with the use of conventional energy sources. This paper deals optimization of sizing of Hybrid Renewable Energy system (HRES) consists of Photovoltaic (PV), Diesel Generator (DG) along with battery bank as a storage system. HRES provides electricity to remote located area, where extension of electric grid is difficult or not possible. The optimal sizing of aforesaid system is done by applying Genetic Algorithm (GA). For this hybrid system, the meteorological data of Solar Isolation is taken for Bhopal (India), (Longitude 77°42′ E, Latitude 23°25′ N and Altitude 427 m). Authors have done optimal sizing of HRES on the basis of solar irradiation, demand load. GA is used as a tool to optimize the system, based on Annual Cost of the system (ACOS). Another considering parameters are reliability index loss of load probability (LOLP) and CO2 emission. For comparison of results in the paper three technologies: ASE-300(mi-Si based EFG), Kyocera-120(mc-Si based wafer) and AstroPower AP-120(thin-film Si) of different crystalline Silicon PV modules have been considered. Out of which AP-120 gives better result as compared with other two. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
