| Abstract | This study is aimed to investigate the effective environment for memorizing and the effect of environment on people's concentration based on electroencephalography (EEG) signal. Memorizing is one of the most important techniques that students always gauge in their study whether to memorize the formula, system design, human anatomy and many others. However, some students complained that they cannot recall what they have memorized. One of the major factors that caused this situation is the study environment. Due to that, an experiment which involved sixteen subjects by using 10-20 Electrode Placement was conducted in order to measure and record the brain signal. Three different environments (i.e. silence, music and noisy) was chosen with three level task difficulties. The subjects need to memorize the word within one minute and recalled it back also in one minute. The maximum amplitude and frequency of the EEG signal have been extracted using LabVIEW at Fp1, Fp2, F7, F8, T4, T3, T5, P4 and T6 location. Alpha rhythm shows higher amplitude at channel T4, T5, T6 and P4. Meanwhile, at channel Fp1, Fp2, F7, F8 and T3 show that theta rhythm gave the higher amplitude. The results indicated that the silence environment is the most effective environment for verbal short-term memory with accuracy of 79.58%. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
