| Abstract | Coupling-of-modes (COM) analysis is applied to the analysis and design of low-loss SAW (surface acoustic wave) filters incorporating SPUDTs (single-phase unidirectional transducers). Coefficients of the COM equation-excluding electrostatic capacitance, which is evaluated by the finite element method (FEM) as an electrostatic problem-are evaluated from four frequencies at the stop band of the dispersion curve of the SAW transducer in open- and short-circuited states, and the FEM was used to evaluate these frequencies. Closed-form expressions for directivity in terms of these coefficients are obtained. Saturation phenomena of directivity under the condition of phi - phi not= pi /4 and the relation between the directivity and the frequencies at the sides of the stop band are described. Experimental results are given for the thickness-difference-type SPUDTs and SAW filters incorporating SPUDTs on 128 degrees Y-X LiNbO/sub 3/. Comparison with experiments shows that the theoretical predictions are quite good. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
