Abstract | Summary form only given, as follows. Industrial development is constantly accompanied by an increase of negative effect on the environment and man. A great amount of toxic chemical substances formed while in production is accumulated in the world. This is especially true in regards to the organic substances synthesized having no natural analogues. Scientific efforts are underway to find new technologies on toxic waste treatment for the purpose of their neutralization and disinfection. Developments and researches on application of plasma-chemical processes for destruction of aromatic hydrocarbons (polychlorbifinils); freons, WTA and medical waste are carried out at the Institute of Problems of Electrophysics in cooperation with other institutions. The foundation of these technologies is the plasma-chemical method-the process of high-temperature mineralization of waste under the action of isothermal plasma obtained by gas passage through the electric arc. Full decomposition of all known organic and many non-organic compounds takes part in this medium. Pilot plants for plasma-chemical disinfection are developed for: substances modeling WTA; hazardous medical waste. Pilot plant for plasma disinfection of substances modeling solid toxic waste is built Designed throughput is 50-100 kg/hour. The operation of the plant is two-stage combustion with further gas treatment. Plant composition: plasma reactor; three plasma generators (plasma, forming gas, air); gas cleaning system. Experiments on waste combustion in the condition of hydrogen excess and possibility of nitrogen oxide reduction formed in the plasma generator were carried out on the plant. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
