Abstract	Darwin's theory of natural selection is seen as the primary explanation of the process of evolution in nature. The evolution of the technical systems mainly focuses on the theory of inventive problem solving. Therefore an efficient optimization technology is a key for boosting the evolution of technical systems. In this presentation, we will firstly focus on the general flowchart of how topology optimization works. Secondly we will explain how the sensitivity calculation and the optimizer is implemented. Optimization examples for a single physical field, such as the potential of electrostatics, thermal, mechanical, fluid and optical problem, and multiphysical coupled fields, such as electromechanical and electro-thermal-mechanical problems, are presented in the context of microsystems technology.
