Abstract	Coherent target decomposition (CTD) is the method to extract polarimetric characteristics of coherent target measured by scattering matrix. In this paper, a new three-component scattering model based on polarimetric symmetric scattering matrix is proposed to unify the multiple classical CTDs. Pauli, SDH, Cameron and Touzi decompositions can be expressed as simplified forms of the unified model with certain restrictions respectively.
