Abstract	Soil moisture is one of the most important variables regarding climate evolution. It is an ECV (Essential Climate Variable) and there are several data sets of soil moisture derived from satellite data or models. Now time series of soil moisture are available for more than 30 years and it has become important to estimate the error associated to each existing data set. A way to estimate these errors is the triple collocation method. It has already been used to calibrate data sets (in situ measurements, satellite data and model outputs) and to model the errors in the ocean field ([1]). The results of these studies can be the identification of a bias in a data set, of a more accurate data set or of a correlation between the two data sets.
