| Abstract | A novel nondestructive method of measuring the refractive indices and thicknesses of transparent lenses has been developed. Experimental measurements and numerical computations have been complementarily adopted in the paper. Experimentally, five selected lens samples will be used to quantitatively measure the radii of curvature and the best focusing positions on the both surfaces of the lenses. Subsequently, the refractive indices and thicknesses of the lens samples will be obtained through a derived numerical methodology. Such a measurement method of the refractive index and thickness of a lens has not been reported in the past. The results of the measured refractive index and thickness will be identified and compared with the nominal results. The uncertainties for both the refractive index and thickness of the lens will be deduced as well. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
