Abstract | Load frequency control (LFC) issue has been one of the major subjects in electric power system operation and design. Nowadays, it is becoming much more significant in accordance to increasing size, changing structure and complexity of interconnected power systems. In this paper, a new decentralized self-tuning pole placement control technique is proposed as an appropriate strategy for load frequency control, which can automatically adapt with wide variations in the operating conditions. This control strategy requires only local input-output data and can follow random changes in the operation conditions. We apply this technique to a control area which is linked to other control areas of an interconnected power system. This control area includes the model of Karoon3 and Dez hydro power plants in KHOZESTAN (in south of Iran). The proposed pole placement controller utilizes a linear approximation of generation units and load model, for which parameters are estimated online from past input and output values by RLS system identification algorithm. Simulations demonstrate the excellent performance of the proposed control scheme. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
