| Abstract | X-ray pure samples of $SrBa_{8}[BN_{2}]_{6}$ and $EuBa_{8}[BN_{2}]_{6}$ were synthesized from appropriate amounts of binary nitrides $(Sr_{3}N_{2},$ $Ba_{3}N_{2}$ and BN in sealed niobium ampoules and EuN, $Ba_{3}N_{2}$ and BN in BN crucibles, respectively) at temperatures up to 1370 K. The structure of $SrBa_{8}[BN_{2}]_{6}$ was refined from single crystal X-ray diffractometer data: Fdm, a = 1595.1(1) pm, $wR(F^{2})$ = 0.0515, 387 $F^{2}$ values and 21 variables. $EuBa_{8}[BN_{2}]_{6}$ has a lattice parameter of 1595.00(9) pm. Both nitridoborates adopt a new 2 × 2 × 2 superstructure variant of the $LiCa_{4}[BN_{2}]_{3}$ type, realized through ordering of vacancies and $Sr^{2+}$ and $Eu^{2+}$ cations, respectively. The structures of $SrBa_{8}[BN_{2}]_{6}$ and $LiCa_{4}[BN_{2}]_{3}$ are related by a group–subgroup scheme. The $Sr^{2+}/vacancy$ ordering leads to an asymmetric coordination (1 × $Sr^{2+}$ and 8 × $Ba^{2+}$ in a distorted, mono-capped square prism) for the $[BN_{2}]^{3−}$ units with B–N distances of 132 and 136 pm. Vibrational spectra of $SrBa_{8}[BN_{2}]_{6}$ and $EuBa_{8}[BN_{2}]_{6}$ confirm the discrete linear $[BN_{2}]^{3−}$ units and $^{11}B$ solid state MAS NMR spectra are compatible with single crystallographic sites for the boron atoms. In $EuBa_{8}[BN_{2}]_{6}$ the spectra are profoundly influenced by interactions of the $^{11}B$ nuclei with the unpaired electrons of the paramagnetic $Eu^{2+}$ ions. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI provides user group-specific services such as Examination Preparatory for School and College students and job aspirants. Services for Researchers and general learners are also provided. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.

NDLI is a conglomeration of freely available or institutionally contributed or donated or publisher managed contents. Almost all these contents are hosted and accessed from respective sources. The responsibility for authenticity, relevance, completeness, accuracy, reliability and suitability of these contents rests with the respective organization and NDLI has no responsibility or liability for these. Every effort is made to keep the NDLI portal up and running smoothly unless there are some unavoidable technical issues.
Ministry of Education, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT), has sponsored and funded the National Digital Library of India (NDLI) project.
