Abstract	Disintegration in a bedding rockslide often results in damage to structures and lands on the slide mass. Three disintegration patterns have been proposed through the analysis of bedding rockslide causes in the Three Gorges area of China using a tree diagram. Seven affecting factors have been identified and classified by literature analysis and field surveying of 21 bedding rockslides. Both Rough Set and Synthetic Index methods have been employed to analyze the susceptibility of the seven factors and to determine disintegration patterns. Three main disintegration patterns are indicated for bedding rockslides: whole translation and minor disintegration of the slide mass (Type 1), rapid translation and partial disintegration of the slide mass (Type 2), and rapid translation and complete disintegration of the slide mass (Type 3). The slip surface shape (a2), the ratio of mass thickness to acceleration distance (a4), the profile terrain (a5), and the triggering factor (a7) are susceptive factors affecting disintegration. A matrix graph depicts the criterion that either of the two sets of {a2, a5, a7} or {a2, a4, a7} can determine the disintegration pattern of a bedding rockslide, thereby guiding land use decisions on a bedding rockslide.
