The efficacy of customer retention activities through economic incentives is questionable. This research demonstrates the potential of customer identification management as a promising long-term-oriented alternative to a price-driven loyalty management that is characterized by its short-term effectiveness. An interdisciplinary analysis of existing theories on identification provides the foundation for the development of a management-oriented model of customer identification. Based on the results of a cross-sectional empirical validation of our model, we derive important implications for marketing management. |
