| Abstract | A frequency-domain electromagnetic (FDEM) survey can be used to select locations for the more quantitative and labor-intensive electrical resistivity surveys. The FDEM survey rapidly characterized the groundwater-flow directions and configured the saline plumes caused by evaporation from several groundwater-dominated lakes in the Nebraska Sand Hills, USA. The FDEM instrument was mounted on a fiberglass cart and towed by an all-terrain vehicle, covering about 25 km/day. Around the saline lakes, areas with high electrical conductivity are consistent with the regional and local groundwater flow directions. The efficacy of this geophysical approach is attributed to: the high contrast in electrical conductivity between various groundwater zones; the shallow location of the saline zones; minimal cultural interference; and relative homogeneity of the aquifer materials.Une reconnaissance électromagnétique domaine-fréquence (FDEM) peut être réalisée pour sélectionner les emplacements les plus favorables à l’exécution de profils géoélectriques. Une prospection FDEM a rapidement établi les direction d’écoulements souterrains et circonscrit les panaches salins dûs à l’évaporation de plusieurs lacs dépendant d’alimentation souterraine dans les Sand Hills, Nebraska, USA. L’instrument FDEM était monté sur un chariot en fibre de verre tiré par un véhicule tous terrains parcourant environ 25 km/jour. Autour des lacs salés, des secteurs présentant une grande conductivité électrique correspondent aux directions régionales et locales d’écoulement souterrain. L’efficacité de cette approche géophysique est attribuée: au fort contraste de conductivité entre les différentes zones aquifères; à la faible profondeur des horizons salins; à une incidence culturale minime; et à la relative homogénéité de l’aquifère.Un relevamiento electromagnético en el dominio de las frecuencias (FDEM) puede ser usado para seleccionar sitios para los más cuantitativos y laboriosos relevamientos de resistividad eléctrica. Un relevamiento FDEM caracterizó rápidamente las direcciones del flujo de las aguas subterráneas y configuró las plumas salinas causadas por la evaporación desde varios lagos dominados por el agua subterránea en Nebraska Sand Hills, EEUU. El instrumento FDEM fue montado sobre un carrete de fibra de vidrio y remolcado por un vehículo todo terreno, cubriendo aproximadamente 25 km/día. Las áreas con alta conductividad eléctrica, alrededor de los lagos salinos, son consistentes con las direcciones de flujo local y regional de las aguas subterráneas. Uma pesquisa FDEM permitiu caracterizar rapidamente as direcções de fluxo das águas subterrâneas e a configuração das plumas salinas causadas pela evaporação a partir de vários lagos dependentes de águas subterrâneas em Sand Hils, no Nebraska, EUA. O equipamento FDEM foi montado num pequeno atrelado em fibra de vidro e rebocado por um veículo todo-o-terreno, cobrindo cerca de 25 km/dia. Em redor dos lagos salgados, as áreas com elevada condutividade eléctrica são consistentes com os sentidos de fluxo regionais e locais das águas subterrâneas. A eficácia desta abordagem geofísica é atribuída: ao alto contraste de condutividade eléctrica entre as diversas zonas de águas subterrâneas; à baixa profundidade das zonas salinas; à interferência agrícola mínima; e à relativa homogeneidade dos materiais do aquífero. |
