| Abstract | Esta investigacion caracteriza los procesos de formacion profesional de los comunicadores y periodistas cubanos en la epoca referida (1991-2005), prestando atencion a los factores socioeconomicos, politicos, institucionales y profesionales que los mediaron. Valora asimismo los referentes teorico-metodologicos y epistemologicos que marcaron esta experiencia pedagogica. El estudio se concreto mediante la revision bibliografica, el analisis de contenido realizado a los planes de estudio, y la entrevista a expertos nacionales en el tema. Se inserta en la reflexion cubana sobre campo academico de la comunicacion, de cuyas articulaciones partio a la busqueda de un basamento conceptual que posibilitara acercarse al objeto de estudio y reconstruirlo con sus tensiones y matices. El informe aporta ademas una sistematizada resena historica de la ensenanza del periodismo cubano desde inicios del siglo XX, estableciendo los encuentros y desencuentros con la tendencia latinoamericana en este ambito. Abstract The article characterizes the processes of professional education of the Cuban journalists and specialists in social communication at the referred period (1991-2005), paying special attention to socioeconomic, political, institutional and professional factors which mediated them. It also assesses the theoretical, methodological and the epistemological principles supporting this pedagogical experience. The study, based on relevant literature review, content analysis of the curricula, and in-depth interviews of ten national experts in the subject, inserts itself in the Cuban debate of Communication as an academic field, from which it articulated a conceptual framework aimed at approaching the object of study and reconstructing it with its tensions and shades. In addition, the article provides a systematized historical account of the education of journalists in Cuba from the beginnings of the twentieth century, establishing both converging and diverging points observed between the Cuban experience and other Latin American trends during the period.
