| Abstract | To estimate the production efficiency of feed plants is necessary to evaluate and control the losses that occur during processing. The quantification of losses helps to have a clear picture in what stage of the process are occurring such deficiencies. It is necessary to conduct this quantification periodically to make changes to process flows and take measures to reduce waste, and improve the efficiency of the operation. The present study was carried out in the Feed Plant of Escuela Agricola Panamericana, Zamorano University, located in Francisco Morazan, Honduras, with the objective of quantifying physical losses and monetary impact of specific finished products using a methodology developed in 2010. Losses were estimated per 45.45 kilograms of the following formulations: high production cow experienced 1.50% loss equivalent to $ 0.13/45.45 kg; heifer 1.45% equivalent to $0.11/45.45 kg. In the formulations for swine, it was found that growing medicated diet experienced a loss of 1.39% equivalent to $ 0.26/45.45 kg; for medicated development diet 2.05% equivalent to $0.31/45.45 kg; in fattening up diet 1.50% equivalent to $ 0.19/45.45 kg; in gestation 1.80% equal to $ 0.18/45.45 kg, and lactation 1.95% equivalent to $ 0.16/45.45 kg produced. In addition, the loss assessment methodology used in the plant was validated. |
