| Abstract | Cancer is a leading cause of mortality in Peru, so the nursing care is essential, which must prevail humane attitudes reveal the same. In this sense, the objective of this study was to describe and understand the attitudes of nurses in the care of adult patients with end-stage cancer treated in services and Gynecology Regional Medical Teaching Hospital Las Mercedes. Case Study with qualitative approach was used, informants being 10 nurses, 11 patients and 7 family caregivers, their size determined by the technique of saturation.All of them were administered a semistructured interview, prior informed consent. Content analysis was used to process the information, obtained three categories: "Expressing feelings about the approaching death of the person being cared for," "provision for the care of the cancer patient until his last days of life" and "Recognizing limitations: staff shortages”. Feelings revealed by the nurse in the care of terminally ill cancer patients are: sadness, helplessness and frustration with the degenerative process of the patient and the pain of the family; nevertheless, the nurse provides care in all dimensions of the human being, trying to reach a dignified death, despite the limited staff limitations hindering the quiet end of life care. |
