| Abstract | The sources of economic growth have been on the base of the initial steps of economic science. Particularly, the development of the financial system has been the subject of a huge amount of research. However, even today there are many doubts with respect to the exact mechanism through which financial development affects economic growth. The corresponding literature with an empirical application to Argentina is reviewed in this paper. One important finding is that the financial system in this country is approximately equally developed compared to countries with comparable per capita income levels, but less developed compared to countries like Chile and Brazil. As a consequence, it would be highly desirable to implement a set of economic policies in order to guarantee a more developed financial system. |
