| Abstract | Introduction. Pregnancy and cancer is defined as any cancer that occurs during pregnancy and within one year of delivery, when presented involves alterations emotional, ethical, religious and social. Material and methods. We performed a retrospective analysis of pregnant women diagnosed with cancer between 1992 and 1999 in the Oncology Hospital Juarez de Mexico; the indicators studied were type of cancer, weeks of gestation at the time of diagnosis, termination of pregnancy, birth data, maternal age and treatment, gestational age and general condition of the pregnant woman. Results. The most frequent cancer was the breast followed by cervical cancer, treatment is individualized and multidisciplinary surgical or medical procedures are performed preferably during the second trimester of pregnancy. Conclusion. The physiological changes of pregnancy make diagnosis difficult and treatment of cancer, delaying the diagnosis of advanced clinical stages. |
