| Abstract | Objective. To evaluate early and late morbidity and mortality in patients with mitral valve prothesis. Material and methods. We made a retrospective, transversal, descriptive study, from 1996-2004 we found 84 patients with mitral valve replacement in Hospital Juarez de Mexico, of those we could only analyze 45 cases. Patients aged from 17 to 66 years. Results. We found 60% (n = 27) with out complications; in early morbid events there are some predominance for pulmonary complications, and the late follow up shows that 87% are in better functional class. Total mortality was 11.1%. Conclusions. We observe that global evaluation of our patients is difficult for cultural, social, and economical reasons, etc. This in force us to exclude a high percentage of cases, but is evident that better functional class will modify survival. |
