| Abstract | Thrombosis is a disease of hemostasis consisting of thrombus formation within blood vessels, is multifactorial. Its pathophysiological basis is Virchow's triad: endothelial injury, blood flow changes, hypercoagulable. A risk factor thrombosis is the use of oral contraceptive consisting of estrogen and synthetic progestin. The article consists of a review of the narrative type literature in order to show the etiological relationship of hormonal contraceptives with the thrombotic event, describing the pathogenesis of thrombosis and the main characteristics of oral contraceptives, alerting health professionals and the public about the development of thromboembolic complications in women using contraceptives indiscriminately. Concluding Remarks: oral contraceptive associated with other risk factor is more likely to generate thrombosis may cause hypercoagulability and researches show increased risk with the use of third generation combined contraceptives. |
