| Abstract | This paper presents Moonline, a web-based environment for supporting knowledge construction in learning communities. Its approach is centered on offering facilities to allow members of a learning community to accomplish their interaction activities in the best way. In order to achieve its goals the proposed environment emphasizes four important guidelines to make the learning process flexible, dynamic and easier. These guidelines are: automation of tasks, integration of contents, individualization of interfaces and improvement of interaction among participants in the process. Moonline proposes the use of concept maps to integrate and offer contents. It offers a customized environment to each user. Unlike the majority of the similar environments that are centered on specific subjects, Moonline is centered on course students, regardless of the type of course (face-to-face and distance learning courses). Also, it takes into account the set of subjects previously learned by the student, as well as the subjects that the student is yet to study, according to the curricular grid. |
