| Abstract | One of the most important problems in membrane processes is membrane fouling. The pollution in the membranes adversely affects the operation of the membranes and limits the filtration performance. In order to prevent pollution, the membranes may need to be modified during the production process. In this study, production of the membranes with silver (AgNP) nanoparticles, detailed characterization of the membranes and long-term filtration experiments were performed at lab-scale membrane system. The experiments were performed at two stages. Initially, the most commonly used polymers of polyethersulfone (PES) and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) at the membrane bioreactors were selected and the membrane casting was performed. In this stage, also membrane production was optimized with the same polymers and conditions but different silver nanoparticle ratio (AgNP, 0.4%, 0.8% and 1.2%) and the optimum silver nanoparticle ratio was selected At the second stage, the nanocomposite membranes produced with optimum AgNP ratio were tested with real activated sludge at the lab-scale conventional filtration system. |
