| Abstract | The usage rates of internet and social media are increasing day by day. Social media tools, which have become one of the indispensable elements of today's social life, bring some problems with uncontrolled use. Violation of the privacy rights of children in social media and the phenomenon of “sharenting” are among these problems. Social media tools are in an upward trend in terms of number of members and usage rates. So much so that today people start their day by checking their social media accounts and they depend on social media during the day. If the addiction reaches further dimensions, even psychological problems such as fomo, which is known as the fear of missing the developments and nomophobia, which is called fear of being away from the mobile phone, may be experienced. This misuse can have negative repercussions on children by unconscious parents and adults. The privacy rights of children in social media can be violated with the behavior that is described as sharenting in the literature which can be expressed as “the parents who share their children” the Turkish equivalent. Through sharenting, the photos of children which are about their private life area can be shared by their parents on many social media platforms, and their privacy rights can be violated by opening social media accounts on behalf of the children. * Bu çalışma, IV. In the first part of the study, the rights of children in the field of privacy will be emphasized in the light of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and then the phenomenon of sharenting will be explained with reference to the violations of privacy on social media. In the second part of the study, the findings of the survey study on sharenting which made with Atatürk University Academic Staff will be given. In the conclusions and recommendations section, privacy violations due to unconscious social media usage will be addressed and evaluated in the light of the research results.
