| Abstract | El siguiente ensayo tiene por objetivo mostrar como ha ido emergiendo la tematica del consumo, en tanto objeto de estudio, en las ciencias sociales chilenas. La idea que se sostiene es que durante las dos ultimas decadas se han transformado de manera profunda las condiciones sociales, economicas y culturales en Chile, lo cual ha posibilitado el surgimiento de esta problematica como objeto de investigacion. Entender el consumo y las dinamicas de apropiacion, uso y desecho de mercancias, bienes y servicios, se ha vuelto una cuestion sustantiva para diferentes campos disciplinares como la economia, el marketing y, en particular, para la propia sociologia. Se plantea, desde una perspectiva descriptiva, que ha habido un proceso de convergencia tematica que ha llevado a que el consumo adquiera una relevancia mayor en la discusion actual de las ciencias sociales en Chile. Sin embargo, esto no se ha traducido aun en esfuerzos sistematicos que busquen incorporar esta problematica en los programas y mallas curriculares de la formacion en sociologia. PALABRAS CLAVE: CONSUMO, CIENCIAS SOCIALES, CAMBIO, MARKETING, CHILE Abstract This essay aims to show how consumption, as a subject-matter, has been emerging also as an object of study, in the Chilean social sciences. The idea that is supported here is that the last two decades have profoundly transformed the social, economic and cultural conditions in Chile, which has enabled the emergence of this problem as a research subject. Understanding consumption and the dynamics of appropriation, use and disposal of goods, as well as goods and services, has become a substantive issue for various disciplinary fields such as economics, marketing, and in particular to sociology itself. Viewed from a descriptive perspective, there has been a topic convergence issue that has led to regard consumption as acquiring a greater relevance in the current discussion of the social sciences in Chile. However, this has not yet translated into systematic efforts that seek to incorporate this issue in the programs and curricula for training in sociology.
