| Abstract | Introduction: Traumatic brain injury is associated with a high percentage of mortality and sequeals in the pediatric population. Car accidents are the most frequent cause of traumatic brain injury in children. The multidisciplinary approach is benefi cial to these patients. Material and methods: Retrospective, transversal and descriptive, which reviewed the records of patients admitted to PICU of Hospital Infantil de Tamaulipas, from January 2007 to December 2010 with a diagnosis of traumatic brain injury. We analyzed demographic and epidemiological data. The results are reported in percentages and frequency. Results: There were 60 income of which 43% were female and 57% male. The ages most affected were the prescholar and scholar. The most frequent injury was the skull fracture. ICP was monitored in ten patients. Mortality rate was 10%. Conclusions: We confi rmed that car accidents very often results in traumatic brain injury. The pediatric population is critically affected. It is recommended to strengthen prevention measures. Mortality rate was lower than other series. |
