| Abstract | This research, with an exploratory characteristic, aimed at identifying the factors that influence the use of information technology (IT) in a higher education institution, in the point of view of students, professors and employees. Information was collected through a survey that consisted of open and closed questions. Eight hundred thirty-seven questionnaires were answered. The results indicated that several factors influence directly the use of IT while others moderate this use. The performance expectation factor influences positively the use of IT, i.e., the use of IT is higher if the user expects that the use will provide improvement and facilities in accomplishing his/her work. The effort expectation factor also influences the use of IT. If individuals believe the use of IT will not require a lot of effort, they will use it more. Facilitated conditions for its use, as technical support, institutional support and compatible softwares, also influence the use of IT in a positive way, as well as social influence, that represents the interference others' opinions can have on the behavior of the user of IT. Other characteristics also influence the use: age (younger people use IT more), use experience (people with more experience use it more frequently), gender (men use it more) and volunteering degree (people who use IT in a voluntary way use it less). Key-words: use of IT, factors that influence the use of IT, higher education institution. |
