| Abstract | This research investigated how high school chemistry teachers of public schools of the State of São Paulo reflect about their own practice while teaching and analyzing investigative experimental activities carried on through a constructivist perspective. The way in which these teachers planed electrochemical experimental activities was also analyzed and investigated. The investigation was carried on an actualization course focusing electrochemistry concepts. Due to conceptual difficulties presented by the teachers at the course begin, new strategies were planned attempting to supply these formative demands and to avoid resistances on the acceptance of a pedagogical proposal based on the construction of knowledge. The chosen activities offered the teachers the opportunity to analyze both conceptual and operational electrochemical classroom lessons, in order to facilitate the planning and the application of an electrochemical activity in their own classrooms. The results indicate that the teachers overcame some electrochemical conceptual difficulties presented at the course begin. Along the course, the teachers also modified some aspects of their naïve way of looking upon experimental activities, and started to understand that chemical experiments could be a useful instrument to help the construction of concepts, to develop cognitive abilities and to establish a propitious and stimulant environment to learn and to promote classrooms interactions between teacher-student and student-student. Meanwhile, it was stated that these ideas were presented in different degrees on the designed experimental plans implemented by the teachers in their high school classes. It could be inferred that more opportunities to teachers to reflect about their own practices should be offered, in order to assure a mean full learning for their students. |
