| Abstract | The current exploratory study focuses on the implementation of an intervention method commonly referred to as “social stories” with four adolescents between the ages 14 and 16 who have a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder. An essential characteristic of the described intervention method is its focus on involving the adolescent in the creation and application of the social story. Results from this study suggest that adolescents use several strategies in the development and implementation of their social stories, including the choice of a target behaviour, the support used to write the social story, as well as the frequency, the time and the place of reading. The study lends support to idea that adolescents can and should play an active role in assistive strategies to mediate common social problems. |
