| Description | Journal: Physics World The Lateral Thoughts article by Eric Voice (January p60), in which he emphasized the importance of visualization, formed an appropriate epilogue to last month's special issue on education. While students need to hone their skills in the use of words to satisfy their examiners, when they get out into the "real world" they will find that they need to be able to visualize their ideas. I wonder how many of the great inventions would ever have seen the light of day if they had been conceived in a mass of verbiage? I suspect that, in most cases, the concept came first and was followed only later by a verbal description. |
