| Description | This paper presents a three-dimensional discontinuous deformation analysis (DDA) theory and computer program to analyze the deformation of rock block system caused by discontinuous planes in rock masses. The first order displacement function and the potential energy are used and the submatrices of a single block and contacts are obtained using them. Contacts between the blocks are detected by using Common-plane (C-P) approach and the non-smooth contact such as vertex-to-vertex, vertex-to-edge and edge-to-edge types can be handled easily based on the C-P method. The matrices of equilibrium equations have been given in detail for programming code. The C program codes for the three-dimensional DDA have been developed, and it has been applied to several examples. The calculated results are quite good in agreement with analytical solutions.
