| Description | This chapter presents the findings achieved by the author at the State Key Laboratory for Geomechanics and Deep Underground Engineering (LGDUE) in China, regarding the innovative work for the development of a new kind of energy-absorbing bolt with negative Poisson's Ratio effect (NPR), which means the material is not necking under tensile condition, instead, it keeps large constant resistance and performs large deformation. The NPR bolt, so-called Constant-Resistance and Large-Deformation bolt (CRLD bolt), has been tested both in the laboratory and field, including the static pull-out test and weight-falling test, as well as field blasting test in deep coal mine roadway support systems. The mining area is 68.26 square kilometers, with proved coal reserves of around 1.817 billion tons. The designed resistance of the CRLD bolt is around ninety percent of the yield strength of bolt rock material to prevent the rod from undergoing yield deformation in case of the external load exceeding the yield strength of the rod material.
