| Description | The rock stability highly depends upon the geometry of rock blocks. The rock blocks are divided by rock joints. Based on the joint length and joint spacing, different types of rock block systems can be formed: In case the joint length is small and the joint spacing is large, few blocks or no block are produced. The rock is undoubtedly stable. In case the joint length is limited and the joint spacing is limited, convex or concave blocks are formed. The rock is less stable and still the reinforcement may not be necessary. In case the joint length is large and the joint spacing is small, simple convex blocks are formed. The rock is blocky and may not be stable. Very likely, the reinforcements are needed. Book Name: Development and Application of Discontinuous Modelling for Rock Engineering |
