| Description | This chapter presents experimental evidence for the theoretical prediction of spin-polarized π-electrons in graphene and related materials by measuring the spin polarization of the field-emitted electrons from graphene oxide edges. From the findings, the spin polarization of the field-emitted electrons from graphene oxide, which show lip patterns reflecting the interference of π-electrons, is up to 67%. However, stepwise changes in the spin polarization of the field-emitted electrons were observed in a time trace, which is caused by the adsorption of residual gases such as hydrogen. These results verify the theoretical prediction that the localized electrons at the graphene oxide edge are spin-polarized. Book Name: Nanostructured Carbon Electron Emitters and Their Applications |
