| Description | In this chapter, field-emission patterns from carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are simulated by using the time-dependent density-functional theory (TD-DFT) and DFT. The TD-DFT and DFT calculations at the near field showed various emission patterns, e.g., five-, nine-fold symmetries, or five-, six-membered rings. These patterns reflect the positions of atoms in the CNT tips. The beam focusing characteristics were predicted by performing TD-DFT calculation in the far field.
