| Description | Ronald A. Fisher developed statistical methods for analyzing agricultural and genetic experiments, in particular the Analysis of Variance and wrote statistical manuals for their field application. His famous book, “The Genetical Theory of Natural Selection” was dedicated to the quantitative analysis of natural selection based on particulate, rather than blending, inheritance. One of Fisher's greatest contributions to the theory of population genetics and evolution was his understanding and analysis of the role of dominance. It should be emphasized at the outset, that dominance is an observational fact, involving a comparison of the somatic characters of three different genotypes, two homozygotes and the heterozygote formed by crossing them. Fisher also deals with many evolutionary subjects – such as the evolution of the sex ratio, mimicry, and even social processes and social structure in Man. In his later years, Fisher became involved in a public controversy over the relationship between cigarette smoking and lung cancer. Book Name: Milestones in the Evolving Theory of Evolution |
