| Description | This chapter describes the latest developments in techniques to analyzes and measure the motility of cancer cells over all of the wide spatial and temporal scales, and in the most physiologically relevant manner possible, through multiphoton microscopy of living animals, also known as multiphoton microscopy based intravital imaging. Cancer is a collection of diseases, all characterized by the uncontrolled proliferation of cells. In addition, most cancers are also characterized by the ability of cancer cells to invade local structures and disseminate to distant sites. Central to this investigation is understanding how tumor cells move from the primary tumor and arrive at secondary sites. Motion of cells in these processes spans a wide range of spatial and temporal scales. The migration of cells, cancerous or healthy, may take on dramatically distinct patterns depending upon the number of cells, their degree of coordination, and their connectedness.
