| Description | Creating a safe and secure learning environment is one of the main tasks of a clinical instructor. Equally important is the ability to design clinical experiences where students have the space to learn and process new information, practice technical skills, and become fully immersed in their clinical education. This chapter highlights behaviors that promote a positive learning atmosphere as well as behaviors that hinder student learning and should be avoided. Teaching strategies that have proven to be effective in the clinical setting are introduced, along with descriptions of student learning styles (visual, auditory, kinesthetic/tactile) and information specific to adult learners. Clinical instructors are encouraged to identify students' learning preferences early in the clinical rotation and tailor their teaching practices accordingly. Students appreciate clinical instructors who design learning experiences to meet their needs and often put forth more effort during the clinical rotation as a result.
