| Description | Interactive technologies such as video games have become a significant part of children's play culture in the late twentieth century. Many computer toys now provide feedback responses tailored to children's interactions. The potential perspectives of interactive play environments then are explored by looking at the next generation of electronic building blocks and virtual playgrounds. The psychologist Jean Piaget offered a classification of game playing that reflected children's various developmental needs. The high concentration and coordination required for successful video game playing supports a commonly held notion of the antisocial nature of the players. While video games in their current form provide children with new playgrounds, the potential of interactive technologies to provide construction material for play has received far less attention. The feedback provided as a result of the interaction between the player and the game differed as well. Video games and electronic toys are the new digital playground for children.
