| Description | The main purpose of this investigation is to study the state of stress of the anisotropic rocks, forming slopes of deep symmetrical river valleys. For this purpose one of the varieties of the variation-difference method, which provides faster resolution and greater accuracy of resolution, is used. As the result of the numerical solution of the raised problem the distribution of stresses in slopes and at the base of the deep canyonlike river valley under the conditions of horizontal, inclined and vertical occurrence of rocks or the direction of jointing was studied. The stressed state of rocks was established in the river valley along the axis of synclinal and anticlinal fold and also in the case of the alternation of beds with different strained propeties.
