| Description | Implementation research is a growing area of research in primary care focused on strategies needed to deliver new interventions, especially as it relates to quality improvement, which relies on ethnographic methodology. Implementation is vital to primary care research because it is necessary to be able to provide answers about the implementation process, why some interventions are successful while others are not and why some interventions work only in certain settings. Qualitative data analysis usually involves first reading and re-reading transcripts or field notes, generating codes to organise the data and then grouping the codes into themes. What distinguishes ethnographic methodology from other qualitative methods is that coding is usually organised around analytic points, and analytic points are organised into themes and themes are organised into a coherent 'story' about life. There are six well-known strategies for enhancing rigour in qualitative research, also applicable to ethnography. They include prolonged exposure, triangulation, peer debriefing/support, member checking, negative case analysis, and audit trail. Book Name: How to Do Primary Care Research |
