| Description | This article approaches an urban environmental issue related to the inappropriate disposal of Solid Textile Residues (STR) sourced by the clothing industry sector in Divinopolis, Brazil – the most influential city regarding fashion –, and the apparel industries in the state of Minas Gerais. One of the goals of this research is to understand the city's environmental backdrop associated with the apparel industries, to identify its social acting and responsibilities with respect to the generation and final disposal of solid residues stemming from this economic segment. We do so in order to conciliate production, consumption, labour growth and income with environmental preservation and protection. The article is structured based on the following topics: the city's context and the apparel industry, its production process and generated STR, the STR's management in Divinopolis, as well as its alternative uses for recycling aiming for sustainability, and finally, its environmentally adequate disposal.
