Recent advancements in biotechnology for bioremediation include biosorption, hyperaccumulation, biomineralisation, dendroremediation, rhizoremediation, biostimulation, mycoremediation, genoremediation, and cynoremediation. Bioremediation can be carried out either by the in-situ or ex-situ method. The type of bioremediation technique to be used mainly depends on factors like site characteristics, cost, concentration, and type of contaminant. The sufficient refurbishment of the environment is possible by the integration, assimilation, and cooperation of biotechnological advancement along with ethical and traditional wisdom to resolve the mystery behind the bioremediation process in nature. Thus, this chapter aims to have a better understanding of problems linked with the toxicity of contaminants in the ecosystem and also produce an elaborate report on the most recent eco-friendly and sustainable bioremediation technologies for safeguarding the ecosystem.
