| Description | The chapter combines an overview of existing analyses of reporting on the “refugee crisis” in Slovenia with the author's own exploration of reporting on the topic in three daily newspapers during the first weeks of a mass migration of refugees crossing the country toward Western destinations such as Germany. These periods in 2015 and 2016 were named “the first and the second wave of refugees” by the Slovenian media. Throughout this time, the rise of hyper-partisan media and online outlets began to change the media landscape significantly. Consequently, the chapter deals with the questions of standards of reporting, changing perspectives of balance and fairness, and differences between the mainstream media and the partisan media regarding the reporting of migration. Finally, the chapter goes beyond the level of journalism ethics by expanding the analysis to question the dominant journalistic conventions through which objectivity is performed.
