Description	The chapter highlights the persistent issues related to the representation of rape and gender violence in Indian mainstream media and argues that it is critical to understand the underlying approaches to journalism that shape these representations. Focused on the coverage of two recent rape cases in the mainstream media, the chapter shows the flaws in their reporting. It points out how these media reports are often delayed, sensationalized, riddled with speculation, and how they lack a detailed structural and contextual description of the actual case. Considering these critiques, the chapter suggests an expansion of the professional code of ethics in India that should include clauses on women's right based reporting and ethical gender reporting. This approach would require self-reflection and in-depth contemplation of the journalist's personal values and beliefs. The chapter urges journalists to report on the socioeconomic context in which rapes occur, to avoid victim-blaming, to avoid offering an excuse for men's violence, to use gender-neutral language and terminology, to select appropriate sources, and to provide readers with information about resources to seek help if needed.
