Abstract	Les coûts et les bénéfices sont rarement connus avec certitude, mais la collecte d’informations peut en réduire le degré d’incertitude. Toute décision prise dès à présent et qui aurait pour effet d’engager des ressources ou de générer des coûts ne pouvant être ultérieurement recouvrés ou remis en cause peut être qualifiée d’irréversible. Dans ce contexte d’incertitude et d’irréversibilité, il peut être sage de remettre à plus tard la décision d’engager des ressources. La valeur des informations réunies grâce à ce report correspond à la valeur d’option ou de quasioption. Ce chapitre explique sous quelle forme elle se présente et examine certaines des confusions terminologiques apparues dans les travaux publiés sur le sujet.
