Abstract | The photochromic effect in poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) fibre doped by 1,4-bis(2-methylstyryl)benzene is presented. The reversible photochromic effect of PMMA specimen and fibre has been checked using Nd-YAG (355 nm) laser. Under the UV, the photodimerisation process leads to switching into the coloured form and wide absorption band below 670 nm was observed. The kinetic of photoswitching process is also presented. Moreover, the high transparency observed in visible (VIS) spectrum range, small dimensions, and high flexibility of presented functional polymeric fibre can be applied for numerous applications in optoelectronics devices. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
