Abstract	This paper proposes the definition, model and calculating method of Total Supply Capability (TSC) and the application of TSC in distribution system. First, this paper defines a set of new quantitative indices named total supply capability (TSC) and its associated indices, such as available supply capability (ASC), substation supply capability (SSC), network transfer capability (NTC), maximum supply capability (MSC) and expandable supply capability (ESC). The concepts in the TSC family provide new approaches to analyze and optimize distribution networks. TSC for distribution systems is comparable to the Total Transfer Capability (TTC) for transmission systems. TSC is defined as the maximum load to serve under the expanded N-1 security guideline for distribution system, taking into account the capacities of the substation transformers, network topology, and other constraints. Second, a mathematical model for TSC is then set up, in which the feeder topology and feeder contingencies are both formulated. An accurate method is also presented to calculate the TSC with lingo. Third, the proposed TSC model and calculation are rested on a real distribution system. The N-1 simulation test has shown the TSC is the operating point on the security boundary and can be used in security assessment of distribution system.
