| Abstract | The aim of this solar tracking technology is to utilize the maximum solar power from the sun. The goal of this tracking technology is to build a solar powered robot with tracker set up using DC series motor, limit switch and two LDR sensors. The direction can be sensed by this robot automatically using digital compass and changes its movement. The solar tracking system uses LCD to display the measured voltage generated from solar panel and to measure the angle of tracking of system with respect to north. The solar tracker system that follows the sun direction for producing maximum voltage is mounted on the robot and the DC series motors utilizes this energy for robot movement. The robot can be controlled by using “Dual tone multiple frequency” (DTMF) technology from a mobile phone. H-Bridge circuit is used for controlling the robot movements. Manual attention is not required in this robot technology. The Digital compass plays major role to control the direction of robot. If at all the robot system moves in wrong direction the buzz ring alarm system gives signal to the microcontroller. The required power for the operation of robot motors is supplied from solar panels connected to a battery. This solar tracking technology makes use of a microcontroller. The microcontroller is programmed, with the help of embedded C instructions. This consists of a PIC microcontroller based control system, solar powered DC series motors and tracker set up. This autonomous robot senses the sunlight using two LDR sensor and the tracker moves from east to west direction always. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
