NDLI: $W^{3}-OLSR-ETX:$ Wired-cum-wireless WMN OLSR-ETX for scalable networks

Abstract	In these years, the growing amount of traffic in the internet has become an open issue in the world of technology. One of the solutions is scaling the network size. Wireless Mesh Network (WMN) technology will support the heterogeneous environment and scalability of network easily. To manage the huge amount of data, traffic control in the Internet is important task. The load balancing in the network and putting the data on the efficient link will improve the performance of the network. In this paper authors survey the load balancing algorithms and classified them in three different categories. The routing metrics are cataloged in three different groups depending on the key components used to design the metric. Authors consider the heterogeneous environment by using wired-cum-wireless WMN to support hybrid architecture. The balancing of load between the mesh routers is provided by using Optimized Link State Routing protocol (OLSR) with Expected Transmission count (ETX) i.e. OLSR-ETX. We modified the OLSR-ETX to prop up the wired-cum-wireless WMN. The modified new OLSR-ETX routing protocol is named as Wired-cum-Wireless WMN OLSR-ETX $(W^{3}-OLSR-ETX).$ The experiments are carried out using NS2 by increasing the domains and number of nodes in the WMN. The $W^{3}-OLSR-ETX$ is compared with usual routing protocol AODV against throughput. Results show that $W^{3}-OLSR-ETX$ is better than AODV. $W^{3}-OLSR-ETX$ is tested by scaling the WMN size against Packet Delivery Ratio (PDR) and End-to-end delay. PDR increases as we increase the size and End-to-end delay is almost same for all size WMN.
